How does the Academy celebrate National Poetry Month?
Posters: Each year the Academy creates and distributes nearly 200,000 official NPM posters, which are mailed for free to teachers, librarians, and booksellers nationwide.
Events: The Academy presents several special events and readings in April, including our star-studded annual Poetry & The Creative Mind.
Publicity: To ensure that poetry gains national attention in the media each April, the Academy sends press releases to editors and journalists across the country. As a result, thousands of articles about poetry appear in newspapers, magazines, and online media outlets. The Academy also acts as the official clearing house for news and information about National Poetry Month.
Inspiration & Guidance: The Academy offers a plethora of practical resources for celebrating NPM, including tips for teaching poetry during April, creating a poetry book display in your bookstore or library, presenting a poetry reading or contest, and much more.
The National Poetry Map was made possible, in part, by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Academy of American Poets would also like to thank the state organizations, poets, and librarians who offered their assistance while compiling information for the map. The books Across State Lines: America's 50 States as Represented in Poetry, compiled in partnership with the American Poetry & Literacy Project, and Poets on Place: Interviews & Tales from the Road, edited by W. When calling came back empty it was almost impossible to hear, but again silence grew louder and I heard the impossible leaving, leaving the sounds of your voice, your face, and

Arts Education NetworkLearning and participation in music, dance, theater, and the visual arts are vital to the development of our children and our communities. Through advocacy, research, partnerships, and professional development, Americans for the Arts strives to provide and secure more resources and support for arts education through the Arts Education Network.
Business Volunteers for the Arts®
Business Volunteers for the Arts® (BVA) is a core program of Americans for the Arts' national private sector network. The BVA program is operated in 13 locations around the United States with the goals of:
helping nonprofit arts organizations improve business practices,
providing opportunities for business professionals to contribute to their community, and
increasing business leadership for the arts.
Emerging Leader NetworkThe Americans for the Arts Emerging Leader Program works to identify and cultivate the next generation of arts leaders in America. It is an ideal way for new leaders to share their interests with others as they continue to develop their skills and their commitment to the arts. The Emerging Leader Program targets professionals who are either new to the field, with up to five years of experience, or are 35 years of age or younger.
Local Arts Network
The Local Arts Network provides a forum for members to discuss the successes and challenges that local arts agencies face across the nation. Business partnerships with arts organizations are a key factor in enhancing the vitality of our communities nationwide. Americans for the Arts supports a network of Arts & Business Council Affiliates (ABC), Business Committee for the Arts affiliates (BCA), United Arts Fund affiliates (UAF) and Local Arts Agencies that work to build private-sector support for the arts.
Public Art NetworkThe Public Art Network (PAN) develops professional services for the broad array of individuals and organizations engaged in the diverse field of public art. PAN is the only professional network in the United States dedicated to advancing public art programs and projects through advocacy, policy, and information resources to further art and design in our built environment.
State Arts Action Network
The State Arts Action Network (SAAN) serves as the meeting place for statewide multidiscipline arts service or advocacy organizations to gather to discuss common issues. The network meets in person twice each year, once in conjunction with Arts Advocacy Day in Washington, DC, and once at the Americans for the Arts Annual Convention. Additionally, the network hosts several professional development conference calls to discuss issues of interest and concern to its members.
United States Urban Arts Federation
The United States Urban Arts Federation (USUAF) is an Americans for the Arts alliance of the chief executives of local arts agencies in the nation's 60 largest cities. These leaders advocate, network, and meet to discuss the social, educational, and economic impact of the arts in their regions.

How does the Academy celebrate National Poetry Month?
Posters: Each year the Academy creates and distributes nearly 200,000 official NPM posters, which are mailed for free to teachers, librarians, and booksellers nationwide.
Events: The Academy presents several special events and readings in April, including our star-studded annual Poetry & The Creative Mind.
Publicity: To ensure that poetry gains national attention in the media each April, the Academy sends press releases to editors and journalists across the country. As a result, thousands of articles about poetry appear in newspapers, magazines, and online media outlets. The Academy also acts as the official clearing house for news and information about National Poetry Month.
Inspiration & Guidance: The Academy offers a plethora of practical resources for celebrating NPM, including tips for teaching poetry during April, creating a poetry book display in your bookstore or library, presenting a poetry reading or contest, and much more.
The National Poetry Map was made possible, in part, by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Academy of American Poets would also like to thank the state organizations, poets, and librarians who offered their assistance while compiling information for the map. The books Across State Lines: America's 50 States as Represented in Poetry, compiled in partnership with the American Poetry & Literacy Project, and Poets on Place: Interviews & Tales from the Road, edited by W. T. Pfefferle, were both invaluable resources.

When a days done, on closed eyes and no shadows of you remain, if that day were to come, I'd find the larest part of me disappearing as the dawn, as the notes turn away from the sun, from the keys you hold to my heart from the beginning of days that exist we've shared upon a time, carries on, no tomorrow blues, no lost faith,only the love that reminds me that it's true, a beautiful soul bore through, we've shared upon a time, carries on, when a days done, resting upon my eyes was the last sight of you
Leaving Impossible
When calling came back empty it was almost impossible to hear, but again silence grew louder and I heard the impossible leaving, leaving the sounds of your voice, your face, and
Everything that was impossible grows louder in the silence
Now impossible hears the beating of everything that lay in the silence in everything that was dark, and impossible
I heard it leaving an empty space
And everything impossible grew louder, your voice, your touch, leaving everything I wanted and it was impossible leaving the sound in shadows

Representatives from several of these areas have asked for more formalized programs to address their needs. Arts Education NetworkLearning and participation in music, dance, theater, and the visual arts are vital to the development of our children and our communities. Through advocacy, research, partnerships, and professional development, Americans for the Arts strives to provide and secure more resources and support for arts education through the Arts Education Network.
Business Volunteers for the Arts®
Business Volunteers for the Arts® (BVA) is a core program of Americans for the Arts' national private sector network. The BVA program is operated in 13 locations around the United States with the goals of:
helping nonprofit arts organizations improve business practices,
providing opportunities for business professionals to contribute to their community, and
increasing business leadership for the arts.
Emerging Leader NetworkThe Americans for the Arts Emerging Leader Program works to identify and cultivate the next generation of arts leaders in America. It is an ideal way for new leaders to share their interests with others as they continue to develop their skills and their commitment to the arts. The Emerging Leader Program targets professionals who are either new to the field, with up to five years of experience, or are 35 years of age or younger.
Local Arts Network
The Local Arts Network provides a forum for members to discuss the successes and challenges that local arts agencies face across the nation. Business partnerships with arts organizations are a key factor in enhancing the vitality of our communities nationwide. Americans for the Arts supports a network of Arts & Business Council Affiliates (ABC), Business Committee for the Arts affiliates (BCA), United Arts Fund affiliates (UAF) and Local Arts Agencies that work to build private-sector support for the arts.
Public Art NetworkThe Public Art Network (PAN) develops professional services for the broad array of individuals and organizations engaged in the diverse field of public art. PAN is the only professional network in the United States dedicated to advancing public art programs and projects through advocacy, policy, and information resources to further art and design in our built environment.
State Arts Action Network
The State Arts Action Network (SAAN) serves as the meeting place for statewide multidiscipline arts service or advocacy organizations to gather to discuss common issues. The network meets in person twice each year, once in conjunction with Arts Advocacy Day in Washington, DC, and once at the Americans for the Arts Annual Convention. Additionally, the network hosts several professional development conference calls to discuss issues of interest and concern to its members.
United States Urban Arts Federation
The United States Urban Arts Federation (USUAF) is an Americans for the Arts alliance of the chief executives of local arts agencies in the nation's 60 largest cities. These leaders advocate, network, and meet to discuss the social, educational, and economic impact of the arts in their regions.
